“Cruzeiro do Sul” Constellation
The constellation (which figures even in the Brazilian flag) has various symbolisms, it represents:
- the geographical position of Rio de Janeiro;
- the primitives names of Brazil (Vera Cruz and Santa Cruz);
- the approximate time of the Proclamation of the Republic in Brazil;
- the Brazilian territory, belonging to the Southern Hemisphere;
Furthermore the star β of the Constellation represents the State of Rio de Janeiro and for this reason its colour is the same of the Sun.
Pão de Açúcar/Rio de Janeiro
The Pão de Açúcar (Bread Loaf), the Morro do Corcovado, the Cristo Redentor (Christ the Redeemer), are the symbols of the Cidade Maravilhosa (Marvellous City): Rio de Janeiro.
Baía de Guanabara (Praia de Botafogo) / RODA
The Baía de Guanabara (Bay of Guanabara) near the Pão de Açúcar for its round form represents the Roda.
Sol/Berimbau
The Sun is a source of energy. In the Roda de Capoeira the source of energy is the Berimbau: this is the reason why it has been chosen an identification Sun/Berimbau. The sun, moreover, is part of the Cariocas daily life.
